Isabel Straubinger: A Student with a Heart for Service and Swimming

Isabel Straubinger, a dedicated student at Sacred Heart Academy, exemplifies a remarkable balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and a deep commitment to giving back to her community. Her impressive achievements and passion for service make her stand out as a role model for both her peers and younger generations.

Since 2014, Isabel has been a competitive swimmer with the Holy Family CYO Swim Team, a commitment that has shaped much of her life. Beyond the pool, Isabel's dedication extends to volunteering, particularly with her home parish, St. Brigid Catholic Church, and Holy Family CYO. Her volunteer work, much of which began before her time at Sacred Heart, includes a variety of projects aimed at helping those in need.

One of Isabel's most significant contributions has been her fundraising efforts for St. Brigid’s Pantry and Parish Outreach. Since 2016, she has spearheaded multiple Holiday Drives, collecting food, school supplies, and gifts for families facing food insecurity. Her annual drives, including the Thanksgiving Gift Card Drive, Christmas Stocking Drive, and School Supply and Backpack Drive, have provided much-needed relief to hundreds of families.

Isabel’s leadership extends to her work as a Volunteer Swim Coach for the Holy Family CYO Swim Team, where she has coached young girls since 2020. She focuses on fostering a love for swimming, helping the girls build confidence and teamwork skills, and improving their swimming techniques. Isabel finds immense satisfaction in witnessing the growth of the girls, both in and out of the pool.

In addition to her athletic and volunteer work, Isabel is a Co-President of the New Beginnings Club at Sacred Heart Academy. In this role, she has been instrumental in raising awareness about homelessness and organizing drives to collect essential items for the Mary Brennan Inn Soup Kitchen in Hempstead. Looking ahead, Isabel hopes to organize a Christmas Stocking Drive to bring some holiday cheer to those in need.

When she’s not volunteering or in the pool, Isabel works as a lifeguard at the Nassau County Aquatic Center and spends her summers as a swim instructor for the LuHi Summer Program in Brookville. She also works privately as a swim instructor for children. Isabel views swimming not only as a fun activity but as an essential life skill that can potentially save lives.

Isabel's leadership and service were also evident in her role as the team leader for Lady Spartans Against Breast Cancer, where she helped raise over $6,000 to support breast cancer research.

Through her work, Isabel Straubinger has become a beacon of compassion and dedication, showing that even as a young person, one can make a significant impact on the community. Her unwavering commitment to helping others and her passion for swimming continue to inspire those around her.
