SHA's Voyage Through France

Mr. Richard Powers and Dr. Beth Feinman accompanied a group of 14 wonderful SHA students to France.

Shortly after we arrived in France, we drove to Colleville-sur-Mer and we paid tribute to the brave American troops who lost their lives defending freedom and democracy during World War II.

We then walked to Omaha Beach, where the U.S. soldiers suffered some of the heaviest D-Day losses. While there, were able to relive their courage and heroism during the 1944 liberation of France.
We then went to the town of Amboise, to visit Chateau du Clos Luce-the final residence of the artist Leonardo di Vinci.

Other notable sites we saw in the area were:

  • Versailles-The stunning palace that King Louis XIV lived in.
  • The Eiffel Tower.
  • The Louve-It is currently the most visited museum in the world. Its collection has over 35,000 works of art. SOME of the iconic works of art that we saw were the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo and Winged Victory.
  • The Papal Palace in the town of Avignon.
  • The Pont du Gard-A 2000 year old Roman aqueduct preserved in almost perfect condition.

We then traveled to Aix-en-Provence where the students attended a “BE CEZANNE" workshop.
It was held at the place where the famous artist painted some of his most iconic works of art. Each young lady was given a canvas to create their own “masterpiece!”

We all celebrated Sunday Mass together at a beautiful church in the French Riviera.

One notable highlight of our excursion to the French Riviera was our tour of world famous Fragonard Perfume Factory. While there, we learned that making “real” perfume requires an intimate understanding of Chemistry. Dr. Feinman pointed out this fact to the students during our visit!

Throughout our visit to France, we laughed together, we learned together, we prayed together, we explored together and we broke bread together. Lasting memories were made.

I am a firm believer that “travel changes lives!” This trip confirmed my belief in the truth of this statement!
