Victoria Messemer is a finalist in the French category, while Lindsey Licatesi and Arielle Sutherland advanced in the Spanish category. Each student submitted an original Haiku to the high school division for their respective foreign language.
The students and their families, as well as SHA’s Foreign Language Teacher, Mrs. Schiller, are invited to attend the virtual awards ceremony on Saturday, May 21, when the rankings for all the categories and the several language divisions will be revealed. Below are their Haiku:
Lindsey Licatesi (10th grade, Spanish 2)
Frío, lloviendo
después de la tormenta
brilla el arco iris.
Cold, raining
After the storm
the rainbow shines.
Victoria Messemer (10th grade, French 2)
Tombant du cornet
Une glace froide
C’est l’été
Falling from the cone
A cold ice cream
It is summer
Arielle Sutherland (9th grade, Spanish 1)
Colores fuertes, pero silencio
Vive en el cielo
Porque es una mariposa
The colors are loud, but silent
It lives in the sky
Because it is a butterfly
