Two SHA Students Named National Medal Winners in Prestigious Writing Competition

Junior Kimberly Wong received a gold national medal, for her poem "Learning My ABGs” and sophomore Ava Guglielmo received a silver national medal for her critical essay "A Woman's Dream in a World Filled with Disparities.”  Both Ava and Kimberly's achievements will be celebrated on June 9, 2022 at Carnegie Hall.

SHA English Teacher, Ms. Allison Mertz, served as both students’ mentor for the writing contest.

Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards bring the work of middle school and high school students to regional and national audiences.  Past winners from the competition include esteemed authors such as Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath and Stephen King.  This year, Sacred Heart Academy has two national winners who will join Scholastic's prestigious list of alumni.
